Germans are leaving Germany ''In Droves''
Die Welt has posted that over 1.5 million German speakers (many of which were highly educated) have left Germany in the past decade. Sure, this can be hard to fathom with Germany being the #1 Economy in Europe and the 4th Worldwide. So when it comes to German speakers going abroad there are numerous speculations as to why but we could be here all day with that.
Let us tell you why we believe German speakers are leaving Germany to go abroad.
For the opportunity to live and work abroad of course, based on a study we ourselves carried out last year on the main motivators for why German speakers go to live and work abroad (our study was based on Ireland but the data is certainly transferable in terms of getting an understanding of German speaking jobseekers motivations for working abroad).
Now as you will see German speakers may not have left for career opportunities at first but that could be because 72% of German speakers were unaware of how highly sought after they were. Before recognising how in demand their multilingual skills where they did, in fact, come abroad to Ireland for:
- 65% For a New Challenge
- 38% To Improve their English
- 33% The Country Itself (Ireland in our case)
